Britt McHenry, a former ESPN reporter, said she was demoted by the network for being white and making too much money, which she’s now being dragged for. She made that claim after someone praised her work and another person dismissed it.

“Whose coverage was so good she was demoted from covering football then let go because of all the impressive work she did,” someone wrote sarcastically.

“No, I was demoted because I was white and I made too much,” McHenry responded. “First to go, actually.”

She then tried to back away from that statement in a recent interview.

“I think there were a number of factors into laying me off,” she said. “I wish nothing but the best for the people there.”

Despite McHenry trying to fix some of the damage, it was far too late and people on Twitter let her have it.

Even former colleague Jemele Hill mocked McHenry’s comment and wrote “Lol” underneath her message, which was deleted and then posted by others. From there, Hill’s followers blasted McHenry and some were serious with their comments, but many others used humor to express their disgust.

“Dear journal, I believe my privilege has runneth dry,” one person wrote.

“If we could only have a society that was more inclusive for young pretty white blond girls,” someone else tweeted.

“Worst argument ever. My white privilege ran out,” a third person wrote. “Feel bad for me. Nope.”

After McHenry was let go from ESPN, she accused the network of doing so because of the conservative views she holds. These days she’s a reporter on Fox News and has a sea of Donald Trump supporters who consider her more than wonderful.

If McHenry’s name sounds familiar, you might recognize her from a 2015 video when she berated an employee of a tow truck company for towing her vehicle. The clip eventually went viral, and she was suspended soon afterward.

McHenry hasn’t said anything further about her theory of why she was laid off, but you can see some of the responses below.
