Hip Hop legend and former member of “A Tribe Called Quest” Q-Tip will teach Music course that focuses on Jazz influence on Hip Hop at New York University. The rapper tweeted “Come to class” with a link to his class description on the NYU website.

The course description said the class will be, “about the intersections and parallel developments of these musical styles.” The seven class course will be held at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in the Tisch School of the Arts. The course will also include the examination of varied artists such as Lauryn Hill, Last Poets, Kendrick Lamar and Public Enemy.

Q-Tip said in a statement, “I couldn’t be more excited to share with the students what I know and I look forward to them also teaching me. Teaching is an exchange of sharing and receiving for all involved”

The award-winning rapper made another big move for music when he became the Artistic Director and Advisor of Hip Hop Culture at The Kennedy Center.  “With Hip Hop constantly changing and evolving, it is easy to forget the history and legacy that preceded it. I want to begin at the beginning of the culture and help people see its roots, better understand its present, and responsibly create its future,” he said.
