Bobby Brown doesn’t think it was drugs that killed his ex-wife Whitney Houston. Instead, he thinks her life ended because she was heartbroken.

“I don’t think she died from drugs,” he says in a February profile six years after Houston was found unresponsive in a Beverly Hilton bathtub on Grammys weekend. “No, not at all. She was really working hard on herself to try to be a sober person and, um … she was a great woman.”

When his wife and manager Alicia Etheredge-Brown interjects and says there were drugs found in Houston’s system, Brown stands firm on his thoughts.

“Well, I don’t think so.”

Adding that he felt there were other things that “played a part,” Brown says his wife of 15 years and mother to the late Bobbi Kristina Brown died from “just being broken-hearted.”

A toxicology report released a month after Houston’s death stated cocaine and traces of marijuana, Xanax, Benadryl and a muscle relaxer were found in her system when she died. The coroner had listed cocaine and heart disease as contributing factors to her death from accidental drowning.
