Comedian Tony Rock Speaks Out About Russell Simmons Sexual Assault Allegations: I Was Surprised

Comedian Tony Rock stopped by the Breakfast Club to discuss his life, future endeavors and the All Def Comedy Jams series on HBO, created by Russell Simmons. DJ Envy asked Rock about the allegations against Simmons, “people are finding him guilty and we don’t really know.” Rock responded, “there’s court and then there is a court of public opinion.”

The comedian then stated that rape is bad and that he sympathizes with women who have been through that traumatic experience and who have had to live in silence. After that disclaimer, he said, “the facts are this, Russel Simmons has been the most influential person in my career in the last 5 years more so than anybody else.” He continues and says “what he did for me is real, its true. I can document it.”

Angela Yee asked him if he was surprised to see all the women come forward with allegations of sexual assault, he said: “of course I was surprised… we knew him as the millionaire playboy philanthropist.”
