A husband on Bravo’s “Married to Medicine” will soon no longer live up to the show’s title. Dr. Simone Whitmore confirmed that after her marital struggled played out in the fourth season, she’s decided to file for divorce from husband of 21 years- Cecil Whitmore.
“I have reached a place where I am in a marriage where I do not feel loved and no sacrifices are being made for me to make me feel loved,” she told People magazine, Thursday, Jan. 25. “I must move on.”
Despite going to the therapy, the marriage collapsed since they prioritized traveling, basketball tournaments and prepping oldest son Miles for college.
“We should have kept marital counseling as a priority, but we let the ball drop,” said Whitmore, who filed for divorce in October. And things completely fell apart after the 19-year-old’s first year in school.
“Cecil and I had a disagreement,” she said. “We were trying to talk through it — with sometimes tense, sometimes normal negotiations in the process — and he woke up on Saturday morning, we had a blow-up. I knew that day that my marriage was over.”
“I could no longer deal with the stuff he was dishing,” she added.
Witmore, who plans to have the divorce finalized when she returns to Atlanta from filming the show’s fifth season in New York, said she’s been leaning on her “Married to Medicine” co-stars Dr. Jackie Walters and Toya Bush-Harris. Whitmore adds that she and her husband are “on very friendly terms.”
And if the headlines from November are any indication, there’s another doctor who will be back on the market soon.
Walters filed for divorce from husband Curtis Berry after learning he had a mistress. And these are just two examples of reality TV marriages going south.
Porsha Williams and Kordell Stewart’s two-year marriage fell apart in front of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” cameras in 2013 and before then, NeNe Leakes divorced her husband, Greg Leakes briefly in 2011 before marrying again in 2015.
“Not only have we divorced, but we are back together as a couple,” she told Ebony magazine via Radar Online. “This is our new normal. I’m telling you, TV is a beast. It will make you do s— you never thought you’d do.”
Peter Gunz and Amina Buddafly of “Love & Hip Hop” fame famously Instagrammed their divorce papers with Amina responding Peter’s comment, “The end…” by saying, “The beginning…”
