Fashion designer Mychael Knight, best known for his appearances on “Project Runway,” has died. The 39-year-old’s death was announced by Obvious magazine Tuesday, Oct. 17.
“We are still processing the untimely death of our son, brother, friend, and uncle. Mychael meant everything to us and we loved him dearly,” his family said in a statement to the publication. “He was generous and so full of life. This is how we choose to remember his legacy.”

The fashion magazine reported Knight died surrounded by family and friends at 7:25 a.m. outside of Atlanta today. No other details about his death have been released.

A designer of “elevated” contemporary women’s sportswear, he launched his brand in Spring 2001, according to his website. After gathering inspiration from European travels and attending school in America, he competed on “Project Runway” in 2006, finishing in fourth place. He appeared on “Project Runway All-Stars” in 2013. After the show, he launched several collections on his self-titled fashion label beginning in 2010 through 2016.
Upon news of his death, several people have given condolences. Among them is singer and “Braxton Family Values” star Towanda Braxton, who noted Knight was one of the first to dress her and her sister for the show.
