Rapper Tory Lanez Spends $35K In Store He Says Tried to ‘Play Me Like I Was Broke’

Rapper Tory Lanez has become the joke of Twitter after revealing in since-deleted tweets that he dropped $35,000 in a store that he claimed discriminated against him.

Lanez stopped by high-end department store Holt Renfrew and claimed an employee “tried to play me like I was broke,” according to a video that has since been captured by other Twitter users.

“I gotta get him,” Lanez says as he films the Holt Renfrew clerk. “Look at his ass. Say hello, say hello! Yeah, we balled out your s—. We walked in the store. He ain’t think we was gonna buy nothing. We balled out his s—. We Gucci down. We Louis Vuitton down. We everything, n—-!”

The MC, who visited the shop ahead of his appearance at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn., explained his choice by saying it wasn’t about the $35,000 he spent as “we were already going there to do that.”

“It’s the fact that HE didn’t get the percentage,” Lanez said in a deleted but screenshotted tweet.

“I hope the co-worker that got the commission was Black, LMAO,” Complex reported Twitter user @southernjawn said, which Lanez confirmed was true.

His explanation did nothing to stop Twitter users from clowning him.

Perhaps Lanez’s tweet from days before the incident sums up his reasoning behind the big spending.

Lanez isn’t the first celebrity to have faced discrimination in a luxury store. Actress Gabourey Sidibe similarly recalled a Chanel employee referring her to another store, indicating the clerk didn’t believe she could afford their eyewear. She later got an apology from Chanel.
