The Internet was buzzing with excitement in April when a movie plot resurfaced featuring Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o in the lead roles and now Netflix is bringing it to life.
The streaming giant won an intense bidding war for the rights to the film at the Cannes Film Festival, sources confirmed to Entertainment Weekly Monday, May 22. Though Netflix has neither confirmed nor denied the news, Issa Rae’s representation confirmed to Vanity Fair that the project is in development and the “Insecure” creator and star will write the screenplay.
Ava DuVernay, who tweeted about the flick’s progress, is rumored to be directing and the original creators of the heist-scammer buddy film will get credit and inclusion on some level.

Rihanna, Nyong’o, Rae and DuVernay got on board when a Twitter user @1800SADGAL tweeted about the film after seeing a photo of the singer and Oscar-winning actress at Paris Fashion Week in 2014.

The idea was similar to the one a Tumblr user came up with two years prior.
Since news of the project’s development broke, Twitter users have begun celebrating all over again.
