Did Simone Biles’ Remark About Smiling Get Her Ousted from ‘DWTS’? Many Say Yes

Gymnast Simone Biles is out of the running for the mirror ball trophy on “Dancing With The Stars,” sending shockwaves throughout social media as some question if her comment about smiling is to blame.

Despite earning two perfect scores during the jive and rumba performances, Biles didn’t get enough fan votes to keep her in the competition. Two couples, Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovski and former MLB catcher David Ross and Lindsay Arnold advance to the finals next week.

“I’m just thankful to be at this competition,” Biles says after a visibly shaken judges’ panel and received the news Monday, May 15. “I’ve learned a lot about myself, I’ve matured and I can’t wait to go home and I’ll be back next week for the finale.”

While Biles smiled during her elimination, last week the Olympic gold medalist was questioned by host Tom Bergeron for not smiling while receiving positive feedback from the judges.

“Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals,” Biles said.

The viral moment led several people to speculate if that had anything to do with the gymnast’s semifinals elimination.

Others felt Biles deserved to be nixed from the competition due to her remarks.

Biles took the loss in stride, thanking her dance partner Sasha Farber, her supporters and ABC.
