Rapper DMX has gone into an undisclosed rehab center to “focus on his health” after canceling or postponing three concerts in three days.
The 46-year-old voluntarily checked himself into a Southern California clinic Thursday, April 27, urged by his ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, and his manager, Pat Gallo, TMZ reported.
DMX reportedly went to rehab, where he had a stint in 2002, because he thought he was “moving to a dark place.”
“It is important right now that he take some time off to focus on his health so that he can be a better father, friend and entertainer,” Gallo said in a statement to the website. “We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of concern and support that has poured in. We ask that you please keep X in your prayers as he embraces your support.”
DMX, who has struggled with substance abuse problems for years, canceled a concert in Santa Ana Tuesday, with the venue citing a “medical emergency.” He postponed shows in Los Angeles and San Diego in the days after.
At the Saturday, April 22, Ruff Ryders reunion show, concert-goers captured a random rant where X demanded fans not to expect him to be a role model and said some inspirational words.
Sources told TMZ DMX had reportedly been “drinking heavily that night.”

“I’m always going to be an addict,” DMX told “Dr. Phil” in 2013. “I’m going to be an addict until I die. It doesn’t mean I have to get high.”
He said he was introduced to drugs when a family member gave him marijuana at 8 and at 14 he smoked a blunt that he later learned was laced with cocaine.
“That’s when it started,” he said. “It was something that drew me in, and trapped me, and just had a hold on me for a long time.”
