D.L. Hughley doesn’t agree with his friend Steve Harvey’s claim that Americans should “respect the office” in regard to President Donald Trump.
The comedian was adamant about Trump not deserving respect after Harvey tore down Snoop Dogg’s “Lavender” music video where the rapper fired a toy gun at a clown version of Trump.
“I think if the president were respect worthy, you should [respect him],” Hughley tells TMZ at LAX Monday, March 20. “I think that all the things he’s done, all the things he’s said just this week — accusing a former president of a felony, he’s insulted our allies, he’s lied. A liar doesn’t deserve respect like that. We have two intelligence agencies investigating what we know is a lie because you think you can lie on a Black man. F— your respect.”
Hughley was referencing Trump’s multiple tweets claiming former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower ahead of his 2016 election win, which FBI Director James Comey confirmed Monday there was “no information” to support.
“The thing about this cat is, he talks to rappers and actors and comedians pretending to give a s— about the problems in the Black community,” Hughley says. “Why don’t he just talk to David Copperfield, a magician, so he can make them all go away?”
