Comedian Nikki Glaser ignited a wave of scrutiny after she blamed Oprah Winfrey for failing to discourage white women from voting for Donald Trump.

On Friday, Feb. 3, the white stand-up comicΒ tweeted and later deleted a question asking if Winfrey had ever publicly condemned Trump. Glaser speculated that if Winfrey, who had a big fanbase of white women in her talk show days, had done so, white women would not have voted for the Republican.

Glaser’s statement led Twitter to denounce the Comedy Central star.

One person pointed out that Oprah did speak out against the president, while another asked for clarification on Glaser’s tweet.

Fellow comedian Franchesca Ramsey, who is known for using her platform to speak out against racism, also chimed in.

The host of “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser” followed up her initial tweet an hour and a half later that same day.

More criticism followed.
