On the Oct. 11 edition of FOX Sports One’s Undisputed, commentator Shannon Sharpe spoke on Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recent statements denouncing San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest.
Ginsburg told Yahoo News’ Katie Couric that the QB’s wide sweeping protest is as disrespectful as flag burning. “I think it’s dumb and disrespectful,” she said. “I think it’s a terrible thing to do, but I wouldn’t lock a person up for doing it.”
However, Sharpe took offense to her statements, because Ginsburg fails to understand how much power her words carry. The commentator professes his respect for the Justice’s career championing liberal causes. But he had to let her know that she is wrong.
“… She has a different view of what that flag represents,” he starts. “… [Ginsburg] realizes what her opinions mean … She doesn’t care why [Kaepernick] is doing it … Let’s say that something of this magnitude comes to her court. And she has already offered a strong opinion, she might have to recuse herself.”
Later on in the clip, Sharpe adds that white people in America cannot understand the issues Black people face without acknowledging their own privilege. He says that Ginsburg and others like her need to understand that America is different for African-Americans. And that Kaepernick’s reason for protesting is more important than the actual protest.
