In a Sept. 23 interview with Black Tree TV, actress Gabrielle Union talks about the importance of Black entertainers using their platform to fight injustice.
“The Birth of a Nation” actress tells reporters that Black entertainers often fear losing their wealth and/or their career if they speak out.
“… One of my biggest heroes [is] Jesse Williams. Not only does he do the work but he talks the talk, walks the walk. And he creates avenues for so many more people … Everyone on this carpet is here because we believe in Black resistance. We believe in Black liberation and fighting oppression, calling it out. And I hope that once people realize that you can still have a career, still have a brand and stand up for injustice.”
