On the Sept. 16 edition of “MSNBC Live,” journalist Joy Reid denounces Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for his recent renouncement of Birtherism.
For years Trump has pushed the Birtherism narrative claiming that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States. Many believed that this narrative was an attempt to “delegitimize and humiliate” Obama’s presidency.
However, Trump held a press conference today to put the narrative behind him and place blame on Hillary Clinton for allegedly starting it.
“President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period,” Mr. Trump says. “Now, we all want to get back to making America strong and great again.”
But, Reid does not let the real estate mogul off the hook so easily.
She calls Trump out for being at the forefront of the Birther movement.
“This guy who was a gadfly at the time had the right to demand the papers of the President of the United States, to demand he show papers to Donald Trump, to me. It was a sense of attempting to personally humiliate [Obama]. And [to] cause him to subordinate himself to one Donald Trump.”
