New Study Says Moderate Alcohol Consumption May Not Have Health Benefits Among Black People

A new study says moderate alcohol consumption, thought to have health benefits for all, may not have the same protective properties in African-Americans.

Previous research has found an association between moderate drinking and lowered risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and premature mortality. However, those studies were conducted among mostly white populations, and some studies have suggested that Blacks may not experience similar risk reduction.

  1. I'm not sure if this is reflecctive of drinking 1 a day is bad for african americans or if african americans who drink 3-7 times a week are already in poor health or the lower end of the socio-economic scale. I mean, when I think of someone who drinks everyday, I am imaging that they are either poor or dirt rich.
