Snapchat Video Uploaded by ‘Good Friend’ Leads to Teen’s Suicide, Highlights Tragic Impact of Cyber Bullying

A 15-year-old Tampa, Florida student committed suicide this past Sunday after friends shared a nude Snapchat video of the young girl online.

According to Florida’s NBC affiliate WFLA, the Wiregrass Ranch High School freshman, Tovonna Holton-Teamer, was constantly bullied by fellow classmates.

That Sunday, Levon Holton-Teamer told her daughter to go clean her room, and after minutes of silence, she went to look for her.

“I go to the bathroom; I couldn’t get in the bathroom. The bathroom light was off so I tried to get in and I looked down and I saw the puddle of blood. I tried to apply the pressure, the pressure to her head. I tried to save her,” Holton-Teamer said Wednesday to WFLA.

The girl’s mother told reporters that Tovonna had taken a hand gun from her purse.

According to the news report, the young girl was telling her mother about nude photos and video being leaked online. However, her mother did not understand.

“Tovonna would say, ‘Mommy, I owe them; I owe them.’ I said, ‘What do you mean you owe them?’ I couldn’t understand what was wrong,” Holton-Teamer said.

Family members went to her Facebook page hours after finding Tovonna to determine why she was being bullied.

The girl’s aunt, Angel Scott, discovered that friends of the 15-year-old had taken video of her when she was in the shower.

Now the family has contacted the Pasco County School District about the bullying. In addition, they have turned the case over to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department to find out who leaked the video.
