Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago have held further talks to discuss the recent decision by immigration personnel in the twin island republic to deny a group of Jamaicans entry.
A statement from Trinidad’s Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs said the issue was discussed between Minister Dennis Moses and his Jamaican counterpart Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement in New York last week. According to the statement, the two ministers discussed the refusal of entry of the Jamaicans on March 21 and April 1.
It said Mr. Moses took the opportunity to inform his Jamaican counterpart of the robust, transparent system in place at the Piarco International Airport to treat with all incoming passengers. He reportedly countered assertions that Jamaicans were specifically targeted for adverse treatment, stating that there was no evidence to support such a notion.
