An 8-year-old Michigan girl is making national headlines after writing an email to President Barack Obama about the ongoing Flint water crisis — and now he plans to visit the devastated city.
Amariyanna “Mari” Copeny emailed the president last week about the issues associated with drinking filtered water. The president responded to her on April 24. The young activist, known as “Little Miss Flint,” will meet the president on May 4 when he visits to witness the water crisis firsthand.
In the clip, Mari says “the water smells of bleach and old fish.” The NBC News reporter asks the young girl who she wants to fix the problem and she answers him bluntly: “I want governor Rick Snyder to [fix it].”
Atlanta Black Star reported that the visit has not won over most residents of the city. Filmmaker and liberal stalwart Michael Moore has criticized the president for his absence, saying it is “too little too late.”
