Twitter Explains to Rihanna Why Rachel Dolezal and ‘Hero’ Should Never Be Use in the Same Sentence

For its November 2015 issue, island beauty Rihanna graced the cover of Vanity Fair. Known for her ever-changing style, free spirit and fearless commentary, the star candidly discussed her relationship with singer Chris Brown and its fall into domestic violence.

But it wasn’t the pop icon’s choice words for Chris Brown that stirred fire in the belly of the Black Twitter dragon— it was her comment regarding Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who was outed for pretending to be Black earlier this year.

“I think she was a bit of a hero, because she kind of flipped on society a little bit,” the singer told the magazine. “Is it such a horrible thing that she pretended to be black? Black is a great thing, and I think she legit changed people’s perspective a bit and woke people up.”

Was it the word “hero”? Was it the fact that Rihanna said it? The world may never know the exact formula that caused a social media uproar but the tweets and memes that followed show, clearly, no one is pardoned from the swift justice handed out by Black Twitter.
