Disney star Zendaya Coleman has rocketed into the limelight because of her bold fashion choices and her undeniable talent as a singer, dancer and actress in hit Disney Channel shows like Shake It Up (2010) and her current show, K.C. Undercover.
However, it was this year’s Oscars Red Carpet that made her a young icon. Fashion critic of E’s Fashion Police, Giuliana Rancic, made an inappropriate comment about Zendaya that set social media ablaze when she said that Zendaya smelled of “patchouli oil and weed” because of her faux locs.
Rancic may have had issues but Mattel did not. The toy maker found Zendaya to be inspirational and deserving of her own doll, modeled after her look at the Oscars.
“I’m excited to be a part of the new direction the Barbie brand is headed, specifically how they are celebrating diversity in the line and encouraging kids to raise their voices,” the young star says.
Zendaya’s doll will be part of the “Fashionistas” line that will include a variety of diverse dolls with eight different skin tones for girls of all backgrounds to enjoy.

“Last week, the manufacturer announced its plans to immortalize the actress with a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll. The figurine will be presented at the Barbie Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience for which Zendaya will serve as the host. The fundraiser benefits VH1’s Save the Music Foundation, ” reports ABC.
The doll will be revealed Sept. 26 at the Barbie Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience at the Hollywood Palladium.
