In a video invitation for an event welcoming the chapter’s new brothers in April 2013, members of Lambda Theta Delta at the University of California Irvine danced to the Justin Timberlake song “Suit and Tie,” with one member performing in blackface. Gawker reported that the organization eventually released a formal apology on Facebook after receiving backlash from campus multicultural groups and the start of a university-led investigation.
In July 2013, Tri-Delta sorority and Alpha Delta fraternity at Dartmouth collaborated on a “Bloods vs. Crips” party, where many of the 200 students who attended toted 40-ounce bottles of beer and malt liquor in brown paper bags. The email invitation to the event advised invited guests to “choose wisely” which gang they’d represent.
