Kwame Nkrumah was born on Sept. 21, 1909, in Nkroful, Gold Coast (Ghana). He received his education from Catholic missionaries and later trained as a teacher. Later on, he taught elementary schools in town. Decades after his death in 1972, Nkrumah remained a symbol of the movement for African independence in the 1950s and 1960s.

In 1935, Nkrumah enrolled at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He earned a B.A. degree in 1939 and a Master of Science in education in 1942.

    Um, maybe i just follow the money trail & the historical activities of the global imperialists too much–when they cannot co-opt or control you, they kill you or imprison you..they did this time and time again during this period & still use this tried and true tactic today with those leaders they cannot control…just for example: Lumumba certainly wasn't welcomed into the US & he certainly didn't receive any honorary doctorates from US academia. It's suspect to me. Controlled opposition?

  2. 'Convention People’s Party in 1949' is not the oldest black political party… perhaps the ANC from 1912 is.
