Marcus Garvey was born Aug. 17, 1887, in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. Garvey was the youngest of 11 children. In 1903, at 16, he went to Kingston to work as a printer.
He soon became a catalyst to the formation of the Printers Union, the first trade union in Jamaica.
