HAVANA, Cuba — St Kitts and Nevis now has its own diplomatic mission in Havana after talks during a three-day visit to Cuba by Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas.
The embassy will contribute to greater cooperation and friendly relations between the two Caribbean countries that established diplomatic links on May 10, 1995, according to a release by the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
During his visit to Havana, Douglas held official talks with Cuban President Raul Castro and praised the island’s scientific achievements, particularly during a visit to Havana’s Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center
Douglas committed himself to the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
“We’re proud of what Cuba has done and we’ll become advocates and spokespersons in the rest of the world to show its achievements,” Douglas said.
He asserted that relations between the two nations have brought benefits for St. Kitts and Nevis in fields such as higher education, health and agriculture.
“Cuba is part of the Caribbean and we’re part of the area’s historic relations with Cuba,” said Douglas.
After officially inaugurating his country’s diplomatic mission to Havana on Wednesday, Douglas is due to return home on Thursday.
