Sudan Releases Woman on Death Row For Apostasy, But Rearrests Her and Husband at Airport

sudan womanMeriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman released from prison on Monday after worldwide protests at her death sentence for apostasy, has been rearrested at Khartoum airport, sources said.

The 27-year-old was arrested along with her American husband, Daniel Wani, it was reported. The BBC said the whole family had been detained but other reports said the status of the couple’s two young children – one a month-old baby – was not known.

“The National Security took her and Daniel,” a source told AFP.

The reasons for the couple’s arrest is unclear, but the source suggested it was not related to immigration or other travel issues. “She has the right to leave the country,” the source said.
