France from Haiti
Haiti gained independence from France in 1804. The French returned 21 years later with 12 warships armed with 500 cannons, and demanded that Haiti compensate France for its loss of men and slave colony.
In exchange for French recognition of Haiti as a sovereign republic, France forced Haiti to pay 150 million francs (modern equivalent of US$21 billion).
In 1838, France agreed to reduce the debt to 60 million francs to be paid over a period of 30 years.
Sadly these reparations were not paid to slaves (X slaves..??) but was rather a compensation to the x-owners, no slave` benefited therefore not considered reparation…..
this is the character of the people we are dealing with. face it, say it, accept it, Black people unite.
Puerto Rico wasn't an independent country so it wasn't Puerto Rico that compensated , it was Spain, its says right in its own writing, why would you write Puerto Rico. "On March 22, 1873, the Spanish National Assembly finally abolished slavery in Puerto Rico. The owners were compensated with 35 million pesetas "

What was Puerto Rico, was the treat of continuing rebellion if slaves weren't freed.
Its come to my understanding that human rights, dignity, equality and/or opportunity will "never" be provided to individuals/nations that carry in fact, the status of civiliter mortuus. Civilly dead ; dead in the view of the law. The condition of one who has lost his civil rights and capacities, and is accounted dead in law.
Law Dictionary: What is CIVILITER MORTUUS? definition of CIVILITER MORTUUS (Black's Law Dictionary)
No one can "provide" us human rights, dignity, and equality. We were born with it. The situation we're facing is having our human rights, human dignity, and equality "recognized" and "respected" in America and internationally. It is not asking anybody for anything— we're demanding it. The movement at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/635/615/457 is following due process of law. Our attack is coming from appropriate legislation, the law, and that is where our fight must be directed. If we are not heard in America, our next step will be to the United Nations. If we are not heard there, it would be on us to take it upon ourselves to build for ourselves an economic/political base, and if we are obstructed by white supremacy, we will fight back— and this time to the death. We will have shown the world that we followed due process of law nationally and internationally, and we were not heard. We will have exposed to the world America's gross hypocrisy and the hypocrisy of European and Asiatic nations. We will have taken our struggle out of the national purview and into international law where it belongs. We will have the right to defend ourselves to protect our rights, our life, liberty, and security as an international people, and the world will be behind us. That's not being civilly dead. We are alive and well. We are not doing anything wrong or unlawful. If correcting a wrong is against the law, then I'm guilty as a mug! . . So, join us in the movement at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/635/615/457 to petition President Obama and Congress to remove the exception from the 13th Amendment. It "is" about human rights, human dignity, social equality, and equal opportunity. If you are civilly alive and is sick of the devaluation of yourself as a man or a woman— as a people, sign up and get involved.
The Irish were conscripted by England, but were eventually accepted into modern society as part of the status quo.Irish people can go back "home",where is "my"home?,there is no compensation that can adequately repay me for the loss of who I am,where do I belong. The catholics were killed in the coliseums because of their beliefs, your personal belief is still greatly unrecognized in today's society,it is impossible to grant everyone their "Personal belief"because that would be trauma,so it is somewhat legislated. As a "set" of people no human condition can compare to slavery.I have definetley moved on ,but as a "HUMAN" who gives someone the right to rob me of 125 years of history ?.

Though I love and appreciate the history lesson here, one of which I didn't know which was the British reparations to US slave owner after the 1812 war, the title of this article is misleading and inaccurate. It says "6 European Countries". However on 2 are named in the article; Britain & France. France is named twice. The US is not in Europe. Puerto Rico is also not in Europe. If it was Spain proper who paid reparations to the ex-slave owners in Puerto Rico, then Spain should be named instead of Puerto Rico.
Good article none the less.
And now the USA has billions to give Israel on account of the Jewish Holocaust (which btw, has waaay less deaths and people effected than the African Holocaust) but STILL have none for black people who only were completely integrated in the 70s. Go figure.
The USA is Eurocentric. Always has been (white supremacy, anyone) always will be.

As a Welshman (My Country Wales) is joined to England, I despise the fact Wales were involved in Slavery due to being joined to England, but in Wales the English beat children who spoke Welsh, killed our own Prince so the English could cast their eldest son as Prince of Wales, I am wishing for a day when black and white people just call themselves people, we all smell the same at the end of the day 😀
Keep wishing. White people will never let that happen. Us Black people do call ourselves people. It is whites who have spent centuries trying to bash into us that we are not. So yeah. Keep wishing.
Zayid Farell: If you do a little more research, you will also learn that, Here is the Good ole Crimerica, owners of the African "Hellocaust" were also payed Reparations for loosing their so- called property, AKA Slaves. They did get huges, I meant huge Bonuses for that Emancipation Hellocaust. Do a little more research. you will find out. Only problem with the Article is that it left out CRIMERICA out of the "GANG" of thieves.
I love how white people come out in full force to give 1,000 reasons why money shouldn't be diverted from the War Effort and given as Reparations to Native Americans and those of African Decent, and probably those in Hawaii as well while I'm thinking about it, BUT they NEVER mention these reparations here that ALL slave-owners (and therefore White Supremacist leaders in their community) received.
Well said. The President should look into this injustice instead of wasting time with middle east conflict.

no, WE don't all "smell" the same at the end of the day…
the title is incorrect… 6 European countries? Portugese, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, British were all governments of corresponding nations involved in the transatlantic slave trade, not mentioning North America…. great info though.
I'm soo happy to be learning these truths. Indeed though they are sobering, and makes me irate, it gives me a better understanding and view of the system in which I abide.
England also compensated the owners inn the colonies too
WHICH ONES?????
Not only them, the native Africans and African Nations must be paid reparation and you know this…
unfortunately, you are wrong concerning the 14 Amendment and reparations; where it concerns African Americans.
Belgium?the netherlands?
