Lyrically, Schoolboy Q transported listeners to the place where he grew up on “Hoover Street.” And with the new video for his “Oxymoron” song, which was released Tuesday, the TDE rapper does the same thing visually.
The video follows a younger Q as he witnesses various incidents of violence and crime in his house and in the neighborhood, before he himself gets involved as he gets older. The gritty video, directed by Yellow Nguyen and Moosa, definitely fits the vibe of the song.
Over the weekend, shortly before his performance at Powerhouse in his native Los Angeles, Q spoke with MTV News about the status of labelmate Ab-Soul’s upcoming album, “These Days,” which has been in limbo for some time but will now reportedly be released in June.
“We dedicate our life to this, but, you know, there’s other things involved once you sign to a label and stuff like that,” he said. “I don’t know the real situation, but it’s gon’ come out so it don’t really matter. All artists have a right to get mad. We’re human, you know, but at the same time it’s still business.”
