Did you hear the story about Patti LaBelle being arrested and charged with assault for trying to deck Aretha Franklin?
Talk about dueling divas!
The News Nerd gave a detailed account of the two meeting in Atlanta at a concert, where LaBelle gave Franklin “a Mayweather-style right and left” that caused the singer to stumble and fall, “landing awkwardly.” The site goes on to say LaBelle was arrested and has a court date this week. It all stemmed from some supposed shade Franklin threw LaBelle’s way last month at a White House concert.
But the News Nerd is a “purely satirical” site, as it notes way down at the bottom of its front page, and none of this is true.
Nevertheless, the tale traveled ’round the Web to the degree that Franklin issued a response this morning.
“I’ve never heard anything crazier — regarding myself and Patti allegedly fighting on March 20, in Atlanta,” she says.
“On March 20, I was in New York City readying for my birthday patty (Sorry. LOL. Laughing at my typo error). I meant PARTY, which we all had one fabulous time.”
The Queen of Soul, 72, adds, “Patti and I are cool and we always have been. I enjoyed her at the White House. Classic Patti.”
