Gabrielle Union is often compared to her role in BET’s “Being Mary Jane,” but here is something her fictional TV alter ego never received – a public display of affection on Instagram.
It’s not much, but it’s certainly better than what Mary Jane got out of her men.
Dwyane Wade opened up about the rough patch in his relationship with Union after he fathered a child by another women while the couple was allegedly on a break.
Since then, gossip sites have searched through the history the stars’ social media posts and put together enough evidence to suggest that the pair really were not on a break during the time the baby would have been conceived.
Either way, Wade is making sure his mistakes in the past will no long impact what he hopes is a long future with Union.
“My #WCW My #Beautifulblackqueen,” he wrote on Instagram underneath a picture he shared of his fiancee. “My life mistakes gave me you and my life mistakes almost made me lose you but your love has conquered all and I hope to spend the rest of my life with you…”
Union never publicly responded to the “Woman Crush Wednesday” post, but the world of social media most certainly had quite a bit to say about it.
Twitter almost immediately became flooded with responses to the post. Some of the tweets were in support of the NBA baller and praised him for admitting his mistakes.
“Real men realize what they have. kudos to D Wade,” one tweet read.
Another user, @J_Carethers, wrote, “That’s respect … That’s real D.Wade.. be man enough to admit when you’re wrong.”
As far as the ladies were concerned, it was going to take a lot more than a social media post to get in good graces with them.
Even Wade’s fiancee became the target of backlash, as people began accusing her of staying with Wade simply because she doesn’t want to start her search for love over again.
“Gabrielle Union would’ve left D. Wade if she wasn’t 40+ lol,” one tweet read.
“Gabrielle Union is dumb,” another tweet read. “D Wade was probably with another woman when he post tht.”
Another tweet by @JuJuSoCrazy read, “D-Wade’s post of Gabrielle Union basically said, ‘i cheated on my wife then got you. Then i cheated on you but you stayed. You da best.’ “
While the reactions to the Instagram post were mixed, all that really matters is whether Union was satisfied with the lovey post and whether Wade truly meant what he wrote.
Only time will tell.
