Jay Z continues to show he’s not playing when it comes to developing a force in the sports agency game. Now comes word that he will advise Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh under his Roc Nation team.
Suh, who recently fired his agents, is expected to announce some type of agreement with the superstar rapper and his burgeoning agency, multiple league sources told ESPN.
It is uncertain whether Jay Z would negotiate Suh’s next contract or be a voice in marketing. But, according to sources, Jiggy Man and Roc Nation will have a hand in Suh’s career. Roc Nation’s client list includes NBA superstar Kevin Durant, Major League Baseball stars CC Sabathia and Robinson Cano, New York Giant Victor Cruz and New York Jet quarterback Geno Smith.
Suh would represent Jay Z’s biggest football client. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Lions and left Relativity Sports last month to seek new representation.
The move came days after Lions president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew said the club and Suh have expressed a desire for him to stay in Detroit long term.
Suh is scheduled to make $22.4 million against the Lions’ cap next season and will have a base salary of $12.55 million. He recorded 49 tackles and 5.5 sacks last season.
