Jerry Seinfeld let everyone know about his thoughts on diversity in comedy, which prompted comedian Nicole Byer to voice her opinions.
“YES JERRY YES! FINALLY! Diversity doesn’t matter in comedy or anywhere else in the world,” Byer wrote on her Tumblr. “The entertainment world shouldn’t reflect the real world.”
From adding Sasheer Zamata to Saturday Night Live to the recent cover of Vanity Fair, Hollywood is realizing that Black is bankable and more. Earlier this week, Seinfeld was confronted specifically over the lack of diversity in his new web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
“Take a look over here, Peter. What do you see? A lot of whiteys,” the comedian said jokingly to BuzzFeed editor Peter Lauria. Looking to challenge that sense of humor, MTV’s Girl Code and Uptown Citizen Brigade comedian Byer has shared her opinion on the debate.
“Funny is the world that I live in,” retorted Seinfeld during his chat with This Morning. The 59-year-old award-winning actor was directly challenged by the upstart in her Tumblr open letter. She wrote, “Why wouldn’t you want to enrich your comedy by having a different point of view to make your comedy better?” Seinfeld, who is currently planning a “mini-reunion” of his popular ’90s sitcom, recently worked with Maybach Music Group’s Wale on an upcoming project.
Byer admitted to interested readers, “His funny isn’t my cup of vodka,” but her solution may be the key to ending this debate once and for all.
