Dwyane Wade is now the father of three, but fiancee Gabrielle Union is not the mother of the new one-month-old baby. Instead Wade fathered the new baby boy with an unnamed woman during a break from Union.
The Miami Heat baller is making no efforts to deny the baby boy who he had with a woman he claims he knew “for many years,” according to Entertainment Tonight.
Back in 2012, Wade published a book titled “Father First” where he expresses his desire to always remain involved in the lives of his children, and he is still supporting those principles after welcoming his third son.
“As I’ve always done my whole life… is always focus on what’s more important to me and my family, and that’s being a great father,” he said. “I’ve always tried to show my importance in my kids’ lives and it doesn’t change now.”
He said the new baby was conceived during a time of “pain and hurt,” but that the child is still a “blessing” to him.
“But yeah, I had a time…. in our pain and our hurt, [but] a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy,” he added. “So, I’m moving on.”
The 31-year-old NBA star confirmed that Union did know about his third son before he proposed to her on Dec. 21 and while they have managed to come back together, Union had to distance herself from him for a short while after hearing the new baby news.
Earlier this year Wade and Union took a short break from their relationship after their busy schedules and the long distances between them made their relationship tough to handle.
“Celebrity relationships [are] very hard,” Wade told talk show host Jay Leno during his appearance on “The Tonight Show” back in September. “This was a big year for us and our relationship from the standpoint of she was shooting her show “Being Mary Jane,” going most of the year. I was dealing with my injuries, trying to win a championship, so we kinda took a step back.”
The two were physically apart from each other but they were still always there to support each other when it mattered the most and that ultimately led to them rekindling their romance, Wade said.
“We supported each other… but at the end of the day we came back together and [said], ‘Listen, we want to continue this, we want to continue to try to get better each day,’ and she’s been with me, and I’ve been with her all summer long,” he said. “We’re going strong now.”
Wade included Union in his family Christmas card photo this year, which also included his two older sons, Zion and Zaire, and his nephew, Dahveon, who he is also raising as one of his own.
The holiday card hinted at the engagement a few days before Wade proposed, as the cards were addressed from the “Wade-Union Family.”
