Make room for the real basketball wife! Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are engaged. The famous couple began dating in 2009.
Wade popped the question on Saturday.
The couple took to their social media pages to make the big announcement and show off Union’s flashy new accessory.
“She said YES!!!” Wade, who turns 32 next month, posted to his Twitter and Instagram accounts after he popped the question along with a photo of his new fiancee rocking a large diamond solitaire.
Of course, Union couldn’t help but show off the gorgeous ring on her own social media accounts.
“Soooooo this happened… #Yessss,” the 40-year-old actress posted on Instagram along with her own photo of the 8.5-carat cushion cut diamond engagement ring made by Jason of Beverly Hills.
The couple haven’t released any official statements regarding the engagement, but tons of friends and Wade’s teammates took to their social media accounts to confirm the news.
Wade actually popped the question right before he and Union took off to join the rest of the Miami Heat family for a team Christmas party.
“A special evening,” the Heat managing general partner Micky Arison wrote on Twitter.
Adrienne Bosh, wife of Heat forward Chris Bosh, also took to Twitter, writing:“The @MiamiHEAT Christmas party always brings great traditions and the BEST surprises.”
The engagement doesn’t come as a surprise for most fans of the couple, however. Since they began dating they have been very open about their love for one another and are often together on any red carpet.
Another major hint that a proposal was right around the corner were the Christmas cards that were sent out by Union and Wade.
The cards read “Happy Holidays from the Wade-Union Family” and “Wade-Union Family” was also the name on the return address sticker.
This will mark the second marriage for both the NBA star and the “Being Mary Jane” actress.
Union has already become a big part of Wade’s family life and has been spotted spending time with his two sons and the nephew he is raising.
In addition to giving Union her luxurious ring on Saturday, Wade also gifted his Heat teammates with green jackets to celebrate their last season’s championship run.
