Pharrell Williams has been having a great year with multiple singles on the music charts. Now the super producer is closing out the year with a bang on his business. Pharrell announced that he will be signing a new deal with Columbia Records. As reported by vibe.com:
“Pharrell Williams celebrates yet another win in his already banner year. The Grammy-nominated singer/ producer/ songwriter has signed on to Columbia Records and is already gearing up for his label debut, slated for a 2014 release.
“The partnership follows his massive success from contributing to the year’s most viral hits,” including Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Daft Punk “Get Lucky” and his own ‘‘Happy.'”
Pharrell and Columbia had already had a production partnership in place, but now the two have formed a direct partnership for a solo deal. According to a press release from Columbia:
“When we excitedly partnered with Pharrell in January of this year, we felt it was his time again,” says Columbia Records Chairman/CEO Rob Stringer. “Since then, ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Get Lucky’ have defined pop music in 2013, and now we are preparing to launch Pharrell as a global solo superstar in 2014. ‘Happy’ is just the beginning.”
After the year that Pharrell has had with producing records for other people, there will be much anticipation to see what he strings together for a solo project.
