Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre gave fans a behind-the-scenes look into their creative process in a new commercial for the Beats Pill speakers. The commercial features Dre and his protégé Kendrick working on a new track in the studio that doesn’t seem quite right until they take it home and listen to it on their Beats speakers. As reported by spin.com:
“Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre preview a brand new song in a new promo spot for the latter’s Pill and Pill XL speakers. Seen above, the Beats by Dre ad opens on the pair in the studio at ‘3, 4 in the morning’ as the maestro points out. Compton’s favorite good kid steps to the mic and delivers a very Eminem-like flow, dropping references to Pyrex, the trap, and dope over a powerful beat. But K-Dot isn’t feeling the energy. The next time they come together, the two realize the problem simultaneously: ‘the drums.’ Apparently there wasn’t enough skittering hi-hat and snare insanity to match the young rapper’s themes.”
It’s uncertain if the new song will be something for Kendrick’s new album or if Detox will finally see the light of day as many are speculating. The timing for Dre to finally to release Detox would make sense especially with Kendrick being one the hottest rappers out right now. The last two Dr. Dre solo albums, The Chronic and 2001, were both released when Dre was able to leverage the star power of Snoop and Eminem respectively. Now, it would be Kendrick’s turn to head up another Dr. Dre classic.
