Kanye West and Kim Kardashian sat down together for a rare joint interview where Kanye’s claims that he would be bigger than Wal-Mart and explanation for why he doesn’t want to be on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” managed to steal the spotlight.
While Kim Kardashian was present during the entire interview with New York’s Hot 97 on Monday, she might as well have stayed home with baby North West because the interview was all about Kanye and his usual outrageous claims.
This time Kanye claimed that he would be bigger than Wal-Mart thanks to his new deal with Adidas after he kicked Nike to the curb.
The “I am a god” rapper has actually had a long-standing relationship with Nike and collaborated with the sneaker brand to release his very own line of shoes called the Air Yeezys, which remains one of the most in-demand shoe collections.
Well, it seems Kanye is ready to burn a few bridges and move on as he teams up with Nike’s rival.
“The old me might have taken this Nike deal because I just love Nike so much, blah, blah, blah,” Kanye said. “But the new me with a daughter takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my daughter. . . I’m going to be the first hip-hop designer, and because of that I’m gonna be bigger than Wal-Mart.”
Apparently he’s already bigger than Kim Kardashian’s reality show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”
According to Kim’s fiance, he doesn’t want to appear on the show because the actual videography isn’t up to his glorious standards (the same standards that have given us a hilariously awkward “Bound 2” video).
“I don’t really do her show just because I don’t particularly like the way the producers shoot some of the shots,” he told the radio station. “I’m very meticulous to that, right? I like to get a different [director of photography] or whatever and when we got engaged, I made sure the show was there because I felt like that was something that would make her happy.”
Whether or not the proposal is still going to air, however, is still up for debate.
“Regardless of how it was shot, I felt like this is a moment she would like to have and would like to share, and just have that documented and we could decide later or not to air it,” he said.
That also means that airing the couple’s wedding isn’t completely out of the question despite how much Kanye claims he wants his family to have privacy.
As for Kim’s contribution to the interview, she dished more on Katie Couric being a “fake media friend.”
“Katie Couric sent us a baby gift for our daughter,” Kim said. “It was really sweet and I loved it. And then she went and did an interview and said, ‘Oh, I don’t know why the Kardashians are famous.’ Like dissing us.”
That’s when she decided to post a picture of Couric’s gift and note on Instagram to “blast her for fake being nice,” but only after she got Kanye’s permission to do so.
While Kanye allowed his fiancee to post the picture on social media he later regretted not taking more control of how the picture was taken.
“Just wanted to make the card symmetrical in the Instagram picture,” he said. “I hate asymmetry. I want it…. but it was her idea.”
During the interview Kanye also told the radio station that his “love story’s a love story for the ages” before comparing his romance to “Romeo and Juliet.”
