The New York Knicks had pretty much won the game against the Indiana Pacers Wednesday night, until a foul on Paul George within the closing seconds changed the nature of the competition.

George made three foul shots to tie the game with 5.2 left in regulation. He then took over in overtime, scoring nine points in the extra minutes and leading the Pacers to a 103-96 victory over the Knicks.

“Heck of a win for our guys,” Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. “A grind-it-out kind of game. That’s sometimes when we’re at our best. The offense wasn’t really flowing, but our defense really buckled down.”

George had 35 total points and George Hill added 23 points and eight rebounds for the Pacers.

Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony had 30 points and a season-high 18 rebounds for New York, who were disappointed after not scoring with a few seconds left in regulation and being forced into overtime.

“I thought we had the game won,” Anthony said. “And in overtime, I don’t know, they just walked away with it.”
