Rumor Control: Queen Latifah Says Her Mother is Not Fighting Lung Cancer

Talk-show host Queen Latifah says her mother is not fighting lung cancer nor is she seriously ill, despite a breaking story by the National Enquirer that suggested otherwise.

“Queen Latifah Rocked by Family Tragedy”  is the article headline that sent Twitter into a frenzy and had Queen Latifah’s fans sending out prayers for her mother.

The National Enquirer reported that Queen Latifah’s mother, Rita Owens, was in a serious battle with lung cancer and that she wanted her daughter to be prepared for the worse.

But the 43-year-old TV personality says that’s not true at all and she’s baffled over how the fake story even made headlines.

“My mom is good,” she told Confidenti@l. “That report in the National Enquirer is completely incorrect. My mother’s not fighting lung cancer.”

She then went on to express the sentiments of many celebrities who have had to deal with publications  that spread inaccurate rumors.

“That’s why you can’t believe the s*** you read, excuse my language,” she added.

While it isn’t certain, it appears she may be considering taking some action against the publication as she promised Confidenti@l that she would be “going to deal with [The National Enquirer] on that.”

She did, however, reveal that her mother has faced serious medical issues in the past, but right now she’s doing “pretty well.”

“She is here with me and I see her every day and she watches the show every day,” she said. “She tells me [what] she really likes and ways that I can get better. So she’s still in my corner and holding me down.”

Apparently her mom’s advice is working so far because “The Queen Latifah Show” has snagged the No. 1 ratings spot for daytime talk shows.
