Akon Urges Women to Consider Polygamy: ‘Men are Natural Breeders’

akon kidsMusic producer Akon has reignited the debate around polygamy, the practice of having multiple wives. Polygamy is illegal in the United States but is practiced quietly by a small number of Mormons and Muslim families.

Akon has never been shy about sharing his beliefs on the often frowned-upon practice. Years ago, he stated he’s able to have as many wives as he can afford. At last count he had five.

Most recently, the Senegalese-American producer revealed to a TMZ cameraman why polygamy is a natural occurrence:

“If America adopted that [polygamy] culture there would be less domestic disputes. The average guy in the world has a main girl and they got a side chick. And then they got a jumpoff. At the end of the day, as a male we are natural breeders by nature. We can’t even escape it if we wanted to. It’s what we do. Men are put on this earth to breed and the reason why God put multiple women on this earth is for that.”

He added:

“When looking at reproduction, there’s always going to be more reproducing than actual reproducers themselves. There’s more to it scientifically, but as humans, women need to take more time to understand men. If they can do that, I think things will work out better for us.”

Akon’s comments will undoubtedly stir up a debate on the sanctity of marriage and how we respect the conflicting norms of other cultures.
