The NBA announced that Dallas Mavericks guard Vince Carter has been suspended for one game for throwing an elbow to the jaw of Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Steven Adams during Dallas’ 107-93 loss to the Thunder on Wednesday.
The incident occurred with 4:01 remaining in the third quarter, when Carter received an elbow to the side of the head from Adams that the refs didn’t call. In retaliation, Carter threw the elbow, making contact. Carter was charged with a flagrant foul 2 and ejected.
Carter has since apologized.
“I just want to apologize to the fans of both sides,” Carter told reporters. “There’s no need for it. They’re trying to clean up the game and make it fun for fans to watch. It was one of those things where I got caught in the moment and reacted to a reaction that was done to you. My intentions have never been that way. It’s just one of those things.”
The 36-year-old will serve his suspension for tonight’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
