Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome realized that the team needed to upgrade their offensive line, so he agreed to trade for Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Eugene Monroe.
According to ESPN, this is the best move the Ravens could have made at this point, as well as the best player they could have acquired for that spot.
Monroe is considered one of the most underrated left tackles in the NFL, he’s a quality pass protector and a solid run blocker. Monroe is coming in to replace the Ravens’ current left tackle Bryant McKinnie, who has had trouble driving defenders off the ball and consistently failed to finish his blocks.
The particulars of the trade deal are unknown, but it’s reported that the Ravens are sending multiple third-day picks for Monroe.
Without upgrading the offensive line with this trade, their dreams of the playoffs, not to mention the Super Bowl, would certainly be deferred.
