‘The X Factor’ Season 3 Episode 6: Auditions No. 6

“The X Factor” Season 3, Episode 6 airs tonight on Fox where Auditions No. 6 will be held.

In tonight’s episode, the top 40 finalists will be revealed, 10 in each category. We will also find out which category each of the four coaches, Simon Cowell, Paulina Rubio, Demi Lovato and Kelly Rowland,  will mentor this year. The top 40 contestants will then enter the Four Chair Challenge. It’s unclear exactly what that is, but it appears to be a performance by a semifinalist, in front of their respective coaches, who will determine whether to advance that contestant to the next round. But at any time, a coach can eliminate someone he or she previously saved and replace that act with another from the same category.

The official synopsis according to Fox is as follows:

“In this American version of the hit UK show, Simon Cowell and his fellow judges search for a singer who has the “X factor”. Since its debut in 2004, “The X Factor” has remained the U.K.’s #1 program for the last seven years, peaking with an audience of 21 million for its 2010 finale. The format swiftly broke similar records around the world, where local versions have consistently rated #1. The series has received numerous honors worldwide, and more than 100 million records have been sold by artists launched through the series, including over 90 #1 singles and albums and 150 Top Ten records. In a departure from other singing competition series, the first time contestants audition for “The X Factor” judges, Simon Cowell, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, they will do so in front of an audience of thousands – raising the stakes and increasing the pressure to impress not only the judges, but also a potential legion of fans. This will be the ultimate test to prove they have the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence that it takes to win an unprecedented $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music. This year they will be judged by Simon Cowell, “L.A” Reid, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.”

“The X Factor” Season 3, Episode 6 airs tonight on Fox tonight at 8:00 pm ET.

Still independent.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
