Uncharted Territory: Drake’s ‘Nothing Was The Same’ Projected Record Sales

Drake-Nothing-Was-TheSame-ArtDrake’s busy week promoting his new album “Nothing Was The Same” appears to be paying off. Early Billboard projections have “Nothing Was The Same” selling upwards of 675,000 units. If this is realized, it will be the second biggest first week sales for an album, behind Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience.” According to mtv.com:

“If early sales predictions hold up, Drizzy could be headed into uncharted career territory. According to early Billboard projections, Drake is on track for the second-best chart debut of 2013, with sales pegged at north of 675,000.

“That would put him behind the first part of Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience (968,000), but ahead of the year’s current second-best bow, Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail,
which opened with 527,000 in July. (If you ask Hov, he actually moved 1.5 million copies, but Billboard did not count the one million Jigga pre-sold through a Samsung app giveaway.)”

This would also be a personal best for Drake. His two previous album “Thank Me Later” and 2011’s “Take Care” debuted at 447,000 and 631,000 respectively.

Drake has also been providing great interviews this week. Most notably his CRWN interview series with Elliot Wilson gives his fans an in-depth look into the his current mindset. As reported by huffingtonpost.com:

“Drake gets extremely candid about working with Beyonce, his relationship with his mother and what she thought of a song that references her and his interactions with Jay Z. Noah ’40’ Shebib, the standout producer behind the main thrust of “Nothing Was the Same,” Drake’s just-released album, also makes an appearance.”
