Kanye West Talks Classism And Racism: Part 2 of Zane Low Interview

The Kanye West interview with Zane Lowe keeps getting better. The first part of the interview was released yesterday and  today we get part two,  with Kanye continuing to voice his frustration with corporations, and their inability to see him as more than a rapper.

According to complex.com:

“He recalls a conversation he had with talent agent Ari Emanuel, who wanted to constrict Kanye’s ability to be creative. ‘You are a celebrity. So basically what’s going to happen is there’s product here, and this is where you end up, right here. If you can communicate this product, you can make money off the product,'” Kanye recounts. ‘Look at [Lady] Gaga. She’s the creative director of Polaroid. I like some of the Gaga songs. What the f** does she know about cameras?’

“He also touched on classism, which shows up on his track I Am a God. ‘When someone comes up and says, ”I am a god,” everybody says, ”Who does he think he is?’ I just told you who I thought I was. A god,’ he states. ‘Would it have been better if I had a song that said, “I’m a Gangster” or if I had a song that said, “I’m a Pimp,” all those colors fit better on a person like me, right?'”

Kanye’s frustrations are very valid, and the points he makes really hit home. However, Kanye misses one consideration, if he’s an inventor and wants to be more than musician, he should strive to make his own products, run by his own people and not have to worry about being rejected by corporations.

Kanye may rub people the wrong way, and his delivery may not always be perfect, but this series of interviews are worth watching. Check out Kanye above.
