Jimmy Kimmel has just come clean about a big twerking joke he successfully pulled on the world.
Last week a video surfaced on YouTube from Caitlin Heller titled, “Worst Twerk Fail EVER” — showing a young woman’s disastrous attempt at an upside down twerk performance by candlelight in her room, with alcohol nearby. You should be able to predict how badly things will end—with her pants on fire. The video has been viewed more than 9 million times, with numerous news outlets covering the story as the perils of twerking: some even blamed Miley Cyrus’ infamous VMA performance for incident.
But, on Monday night, Kimmel confessed to the world that the whole stunt was contrived by his team. “We made it up,” he said, explaining that the video had been shot two months earlier.
He introduced the stunt woman in the video and explained she was “sworn to secrecy,” which caused her to get “numerous” comments, including a Facebook message from a “worried” ex-boyfriend.
“Well, thank you for helping us deceive the world and hopefully put an end to twerking forever,” Kimmel told her.
