It was the first game of the season, so maybe people need to give Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan a break for neglecting to carry the football into the end zone.
Trevathan made a great interception on Joe Flaco’s pass in the season opener between the Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens. He was clear for an easy touchdown, but he dropped the ball on the one-yard line—prematurely celebrating his score. Watch it happen in the video below.
“It was a dumb play in retrospect,” Trevathan said to reporters after the game. “It’s not going to happen again. I was just so in the moment. It was kind of selfish of me. I’m growing from it, and I’m not going to let nobody stop me from getting better.”
His error led to a Ravens touchdown. Because no one recovered the ball in the field of play, Baltimore got possession back on its own 20-yard line.
The Broncos were still able to defeat the Ravens 49-27, clutching their first victory of the regular season.
