Eminem had previewed a new song during a Beats by Dre headphones commercial for his long-time collaborator, Dr. Dre.
Now Eminem has released the full version of the track called “Berzerk.” The song, which is produced by Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin, has a classic Eminem flow mixed with Rubin’s throwback, hard hitting, rock-rap sound, akin to the Beastie Boys.
According to complex.com:
“The track itself samples Billy Squier’s “The Stroke.”
“The facts, though, are that his album, MMLP2, is executive produced by Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin, the latter of whom may have to do with the Beastie Boys-referencing sound of Berzerk.
“Long ago, on the Slim Shady LP, Em rapped about being compared to the Beasties: ‘Got b*** on my jock out in East Detroit/ ‘Cause they think that I’m a m***** Beastie Boy. So I told them I was Mike D.'”
In classic Eminem form, he takes aim at a helpless pop culture star in Berzerk, as he raps about waking up with “the ugly Kardashian.” That reference is being viewed as a swipe at Khloe Kardashian, who is not viewed as being as attractive as her sisters Kim and Kourtney.
Eminem announced the release of his new album in the Beats By Dre commercial. The MMLP2 album, the sequel to Em’s wildly successful Marshall Mathers LP, is due out on Nov. 5.
Eminem’s new album reaffirms how hot rap music is again. This year we’re getting great releases from rap veterans like Eminem and Jay Z, and also from the new generation, like Drake and Big Sean.
