Say it Loud: ’42’ Star Chadwick Boseman to Play James Brown in Biopic

Chadwick Boseman is set to play another major icon after successfully portraying Jackie Robinson in “42.” The rising star has signed on to depict James Brown in a planned biopic helmed by “The Help” director, Tate Taylor.

News of Boseman being cast as the ‘Godfather of Soul’ serves as more proof that the James Brown biopic is finally on the road to production. The currently untitled film from Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment has been in development for years, with various actors and directors attached.

Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer are producing the film. As previously reported, Grazer fired filmmaker Spike Lee, who was originally signed on to direct the project.

The James Brown biopic is scheduled to begin shooting this fall in Mississippi.
