New York Jets QB Competition: Mark Sanchez Day-to-Day With Injury

New York Jets’ quarterback situation has been relieved a little. Mark Sanchez, who suffered a painful right shoulder injury last week, has only been listed as day-to-day, the team announced Sunday.

It was the only update the Jets gave on Sanchez’s injury. At this time, it is unknown whether he would play in the Jets’ final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. But the day-to-day characterization indicates the injury isn’t serious.

Sanchez got an MRI on Sunday that revealed his shoulder is just bruised, according to source. The source also said the team is not sure at this time how long Sanchez will sit out.

This summer the Jets camp has struggled to choose between Sanchez and Geno Smith for starting quarterback for Week 1 of the season. After a three-interception game Saturday night by Smith, Sanchez appeared to be on the verge of reclaiming his starting job. But now he has been injured, the quarterback competition continues.

The New York Jets open at home Sept. 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
